7 BEAUTY BRANDS COMMITTED TO ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND PACKAGING
Last year, the global recycling industry was shaken out of a heavy sleep when China announced they would no longer accept internationally shipped contaminated plastics in order to focus on domestic recycling and cut down on air pollution. The United States, in particular, scrambled to regroup. Shortly after, shipping waste out of the North America proverbial backyard made the news again when Canada was forced to take back trash sent to the Philippines.
No matter how simple or intricate your beauty routine, beauty products are an investment, and how you spend your money in the $445 billion beauty industry makes a difference. Some companies test on animals, use toxic ingredients, and pay low wages to workers. Others pledge to operate without animal testing, source organic ingredients, pay fair wages, and otherwise strive to make the world a better place.
Thanks to the sunscreen ban in Hawaii and the Environmental Working Group annual reports, we’ve become alarmingly aware that two-thirds of popular sunscreens contain ingredients harmful enough to kill coral reef and promote a plethora of diseases in humans. But go too far the other way and you’ll end up with a “natural” brand that underperforms. So what’s a lady to do?
According to a recent report by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the average American sends 4.4 pounds of trash to landfills each day. A lot of trash doesn't even make it to the landfill. Instead, it clutters the sides of roads and swirls in the ocean. Plastic is especially dangerous to the ocean, marine life, and our health. To combat this, many Americans have started going zero waste, including people within the wellness industry.
In Autumn, Vata, the air element, is predominant. Leaves dry and fall off trees, a cool wind blows them around and the temperature drops. Vata regulates the nervous system, moisture in the body, how relaxed we are, and how well we digest food. When Vata is out of balance, we feel anxious and ungrounded, tend to have dry skin, “break wind” and become constipated.
To stay balanced and flow with seasonal changes, we can’t live like it’s summer all year long, eating salad and drinking iced tea. We must balance the elements within us according to what’s predominant outside of us.

Fashion, an industry that rakes in 3 trillion dollars a year, is one of the most toxic industries—alongside big oil companies—and places a heavy burden on Mother Earth, rapidly depleting natural resources. The industry has evolved; now there is simply no excuse not to invest in alternative, eco-friendly brands—for Earth and for all.
Many beauty brands are labeling themselves “sustainable,” “green,” and “eco” because they’re the new buzzwords that sell. But just because they say it, doesn’t mean there is action behind the words. As conscious consumers, it’s up to us to do a little research on brands before we invest in their products.
We all look healthier and more attractive with a little color on our faces and bodies. But the sun is no joke and skincare in the summer needs to be taken seriously, as damaging UV rays are at their strongest and most harmful. "Fall, winter, and spring account for around 20 percent of the [UV] exposure that we have," says Ron Shelton, MD, a board-certified dermatologist, and assistant professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. "Yet, the the bulk of the sun damage happens in summer."
NEVER SUFFER WITH YEAST OR UTI AGAIN
Yeast infections are very common. So common, in fact, that 75 percent of women will have one at some point in their life. Most vaginal yeast infections are caused by Candida albicans, an organism that feeds on sugar and yeast, and unbalanced pH levels. If you’re prone to yeast infections, or UTIs, you’re not alone and can do a number of things to avoid them. I’ll keep this short and sweet. Follow these five recommendations and you’ll be much less likely to ever worry about vaginal health, again.

The line boasts ethically and sustainably sourced raw materials; certified natural and organic formulations that incorporate organic materials whenever possible; recycled and recyclable packaging; and donations to the Moroccan women who work to provide the raw materials. This sounded great to me, so I shelved my Dr. Hauschka for 10 days to give the line a try.
Tongue scraping is the Ayurvedic oral care practice that helps to remove bacteria, food debris, toxins and dead cells from the tongue’s surface.
